Motorcycle magazines get their Mojo back

without comments

I recently picked up an issue of Motorcycle Mojo magazine (sub-titled “Canadian Motorcycle Perspectives”).

This is the first bike magazine I’ve purchased in almost 2 years. I used to be an avid follower of a number of different Canadian, American and British mags until they all seemed to turn into one big homogenized road test (excuse me — “Press Launch”) of bikes I had absolutely no interest in.

MM came onto my radar largely because I learned that Uwe Wachtendorf, erstwhile writer for Cycle Canada, was working for them. I was pleased to discover that Clinton Smout — an old motorcycle training colleague of mine — writes a regular column. I was also surprised to discover that MM is produced in Barrie, Ontario, where I made my home while attending Georgian College. I still have fond memories of the town that became my gateway to the rest of Ontario (the part that isn’t Toronto).

The content is like a throwback to bike magazines of old, taking an all-things-to-all-people approach that includes road tests, a tech column, a racing column and some touring stories.

Judging by the number of ads, MM must be pulling in some revenue. Here’s hoping they survive in the world of online media.
