CVMG Paris Rally 2012

without comments

Spent a very enjoyable Saturday roasting in the sun and enjoying what has to be the biggest CVMG National Rally ever in Paris, Ontario this past Father’s Day weekend.

I have lamented the passing of the bike judging focus of years gone by in previous posts here. It’s just how I had always pictured the rally: row upon row of perfectly restored bikes, the glint of chrome and the smell of polish, fastidious judges scrutinizing the authenticity of nuts and bolts and the placement of decals. This year I decided to forgo Sunday entirely and try to get with the swap meet theme on Saturday instead. It appears that lots of other people had the same idea. I have been attending the rally since it was held on the grounds of the Welland County Motorcycle Club and I have never seen a bigger crowd. The grounds were full of vendors and the lot usually reserved for motorcycles was filled early. Latecomers had to find a parking spot amongst the cars.

This year’s featured marque was Vincent and there was a row of beautifully restored machines on display in one of the buildings. Some images will be posted on this site’s gallery.

The only minor irritation was when my wife attempted to duck into the air-conditioned main building to avoid heat-stroke and we were confronted immediately and told that only registered rally attendees were allowed in. We left the grounds shortly after. The fact that I am a CVMG member did not seem to account for much.

All in all a very nice way to spend a sunny Saturday. Maybe I can live with the new format, but I still think that the name should be changed to the CVMG National Swap Meet — for authenticity…
