Harley gives up without firing a shot

I just read that Harley is selling its stake in legendary Italian bike maker MV Agusta to “concentrate on its core business”. This comes just over two years after Harley announced its purchase of the sport bike company.

When Harley bought MV Agusta, I questioned whether Buell and MV could co-exist under the Harley umbrella. The answer seemed to be no when Harley shut down Buell unceremoniously last October. Now that Harley has divested itself of MV, I have to ask myself what their plan was when they bought MV and then sat on it for two years doing absolutely nothing. If Harley is now selling MV to concentrate on their core business, then what were they thinking when they bought MV in the first place? Perhaps the Harley brain trust is getting senile…
